Magic End Season The Same Way They Started: Against The Indiana Pacers

By on Apr 16, 2014 in Game Preview | 0 comments

October 29th doesn’t seem that long ago. That’s the date for opening day in the 2013-2014 NBA season and also the Magic’s first game. That game, a 97-87 Indiana rout of Orlando delivered little shock to Magic fans, who were prepared for another lackluster season. Orlando once again finds’s itself matched up against Indiana. For Orlando, this is the end, at the sound of the final buzzer Magic basketball goes on a 6 month hiatus. But for the Pacers, it marks the beginning of the post season. The Pacers will be looking to end their regular season with a statement. Having secured the 1st seed in the East, the Pacers are set to play the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the playoffs, a team that has given them some trouble this season, including an embarrassing 107-88 defeat a week ago. The Pacers have fallen off the wagon this past month, losing 12 of their last...

Magic Induct Nick Anderson and Pat Williams Into Hall of Fame

By on Apr 9, 2014 in News | 0 comments

Many expected the Magic to retire a player’s jersey during the Magic’s Silver Anniversary season. And while that has not come to fruition, something more unique has, a Orlando Magic Hall of Fame. Most NBA teams have honored past legends with jersey retirements, but few can say that they have a true “Hall of Fame,” A space allocated to immortalizing those who changed  the franchise for the better. The Magic announced the induction of the first two members Wednesday, Magic co-founder and former GM Pat Williams, and Orlando’s first draft pick in franchise History, Nick Anderson. According to Zach Oliver of Baller Mind Frame of Mind, Orlando plans to “induct a class every year, selected by a committee who have been with the Magic for a while.” We can only imagine that Magic greats like Penny Hardaway, Darrel Armstrong, and yes inevitably Shaquille...

Oladipo Leads Magic Past Knicks in Double Overtime Thriller

By on Feb 22, 2014 in Games | 0 comments

Orlando came into Friday night’s match-up against the Knicks Winners of 5 of their last 6 at home. Two of those wins were against top tier teams the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers. Something about being at home has galvanized this team into the squad we hoped they would be. And while Orlando still hasn’t found their way to success on the road, tallying a dreadful (3-24) on the road, it’s great to see that they’ve found their groove at Amway Center. Orlando gritted through some phenomenal New York offense throughout the game. The Knicks shot an unreal 58% from the field in the first half allowing New York to gain a 14 point lead on the Magic mid-way through the third quarter. Carmelo Anthony had as good a shooting night as you could ask from the super star, racking up 44 points on 18/26 shooting, including two highly contested threes late in the 2nd...

Magic To Sign Adonis Thomas and Dewayne Dedmon to 10 Day Deals

By on Feb 21, 2014 in News | 0 comments

Following the Glen Davis buyout, the Magic only had 12 players on their roster. NBA rule mandates that a team must have a minimum of 13 players signed during a season. To oblige this rule, the Magic would need to sign at least one player to the roster. The Magic had three open roster spots and elected to sign two players. Y Sport’s Mark Spears reports the Magic will sign both USC’s Dewayne Dedmon,  an undrafted rookie who has already had stints with the Warriors and 76ers, and  Memphis’s Adonis Thomas, also an undrafted rookie, who has spent his short career in the NBA D-League.   Thomas a 6’6″ Forward, was heavily recruited out of high school, but has since struggled to find his place. Thomas joined the D-League’s Springfield Armor this season, and has averaged 16.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in his 21 games there. The Adobe Flash Player is...

Magic, Davis Reach Buyout Agreement

By on Feb 21, 2014 in News | 0 comments

After a less than exciting trade deadline around the league, the Magic did not manage a deal on the day. Many were upset that Magic veteran big man Glen Davis could not be moved. Many hoped to see Davis’s minutes open up for the younger players, who have been struggling to find consistent minutes. Davis was averaging over 30 minutes per game, leaving very little for the plethora of young Forwards the Magic have at their disposal. Andrew Nicholson, who saw his minutes reduced drastically since Davis returned from injury in November, has not been able to find his place on the Magic rotation, often accumulating a”DNP CD.”   Around 6:00, three hours after the trade deadline had passed, Adrian Wojnarowski of Y Sports tweeted that the Magic were working on a buyout agreement with Davis. The talks progressed quickly, both sides agreeing on terms within a matter of a few...

Tobias Harris Game Winner Leads Orlando Past OKC in Thrilling 103-102 Victory

Let me preface this article with a short anecdote. On January 19th, 2011. I enter the Amway Center on what seemed to be a normal mid week Magic game against the Philadelphia 76ers. What I didn’t know was that this game would be special. The Magic trailed the Sixers 86-90 with about 20 seconds remaining in the game. The ball is inbounded to Jason Richardson. Richardson He takes a couple dribbles toward the top of the key, releases and is fouled by Andre Iguodala and miraculously makes the basket for a four-point-play. He converts the free throw and the game goes to overtime. The Magic would end up winning the game 99-98 in a tense and exciting overtime. Walking out of the Amway Center, I told myself “I may never witness a game with as miraculous and hair raising as this game.” I could have never imagined how wrong I would be.   Fast forward nearly two years later. The...

Thunder at. Magic

By on Feb 7, 2014 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

The Oklahoma City Thunder are possibly playing the best basketball this franchise has played since this team has come together. The injury to Russel Westbrook, which should have been a setback, has only bolstered this OKC team to new heights. Kevin Durant has accepted the scoring load left from Westbrook and has been averaging 33 points in the last 10 games. That includes 4 games with over 40 points scored. Durant has had no problem scoring on the Magic in his career. He scored 28 points against Orlando in their previous meeting. We can only except this Super charged Durant is going to do everything it takes to keep his streak of success alive against Orlando.
